The Last of Us Part 2 PS5 update adds 60FPS upgrade, meaning Ellie’s scowling is even more realistic

The Last Of Us Part II

Naughty Dog has announced a new free patch for The Last of Us Part II on PlayStation 5 (PS5) to improve the frame rate.

The patch, numbered 1.08, adds a new toggle in the options to target either 30FPS (as originally on PS4) or 60FPS to make use of the new console’s power.

That improved frame rate compliments other features the PlayStation 5 allows for, like improved loading times and an enhanced resolution.

Naughty Dog director of communications Arne Meyer took to the PlayStation Blog to announce the news.

“So far 2021 has been incredible, and supremely humbling, as The Last of Us Part II has been recognized with over 300 Game of the Year Awards, an unprecedented achievement,” he said, also noting their BAFTA and Golden Joystick awards.

“We’ve received a ton of fan mail letting us know how meaningful The Last of Us series has been for you and we’ve been astounded by all the excellent fanart, cosplay, and tattoos you have been sharing with us.”

Looking ahead, he said: “The team has been digging into the PS5 hardware and the possibilities it unlocks since launch last year and we’re excited about what the future holds. This patch is just the first step of working on the PS5. We’ll let you know when we’ve got more news to share!”

What exactly that news might be is unknown. Naughty Dog are rumoured to be working on a new Uncharted game, as well as a PlayStation 5 remake of the first The Last Of Us.

A plot for a third The Last Of Us game has also already been written, but is yet to begin production. Until then, we still have the HBO show to look forward to.

A new trailer for the game has been released to celebrate the patch. Check it out below.
