Riot Games celebrates Pride across all its titles, from League of Legends to Legends of Runeterra

Riot Games Pride

League of Legends developer Riot Games is celebrating Pride over the course of May and June with themed items across its games.

They’re also releasing themed merchandise, with all proceeds going to the It Gets Better Project.

“For the past five years we’ve been proudly participating in IDAHOTB, International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (now known as May 17th), and in 2018, we began sharing our support with you all, in-game with Icons that have made way to homeguard trail animations, emotes and even a Guardian (Legends of Runeterra),” reads their news post.

“Now, we’re continuing our support for LGTBQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Trans, Bisexual, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, Plus the rest!) folks and allies across all our games, in a whole new way!”

It’s quite the turnaround for a company that’s been criticised for sexual harassment and misogyny.

So what’s available for Pride from Riot Games this year?

League of Legends

Rainbow Poro Icons return, with the spectrum represented by the cute Poro character. They add a coloured homeguard trail to your character, which will be active until the end of June.

New emotes and summoner icons can also be earned via special missions, available from 17 May onwards. The missions will need to be completed by the end of June, but the rewards can be used year-round.

Those missions include allusions to the characters Diana and Leona. Can we expect some LGBT+ representation in their stories?

Lastly, profile splash art customisation will be added.

Legends of Runeterra

Everybody Gets Love! Emotes featuring Tyari The Traveler, Poro icons for flags, and a cute new Ellie the Elephant Guardian will all be made available.

Head to the shop from 19 May and grab the items for free!

Teamfight Tactics

For TFT, a new Pride boom will be released with seven coloured variants, accessed by equipping icons.

They’ll be available from 12 May via a special mission.

Wild Rift

Riot Games’ latest game will also feature seven rainbow Poro icons, a homeguard trail, and a new emote.

Two missions will be available to gain the items from 24 May.

Pride themed Riot Games merchandise will be available from the online store from 1 June to 31 July.

Grab a Pride themed mug, t-shirts, hoodies, tank tops and even a large hand fan to thworp your way through Pride season.
