Lil Nas X will “go back in time” to “uplift” his younger self in the music video for his new song “Sun Goes Down”.

The “Old Town Road” singer teased the highly personal music video on Twitter on Sunday (16 May), sharing two images of himself wearing an all-white suit and a crucifix earring.

“In the ‘Sun Goes Down’ video I go back in time to visit a younger version self who’s struggling inside, hating himself, & doesn’t want to live anymore. I try my best to uplift him,” Lil Nas X wrote on Twitter.

The pop icon said he “can’t wait” to share the song and video with fans, adding: “This one is really special to me.”

Fans were quick to share their excitement ahead of the release of “Sun Goes Down” – and pretty much everyone is expecting to be left in floods of tears when the music video lands on Friday (21 May).

Lil Nas X also shared details of “Sun Goes Down” on Instagram, racking up more than 700,000 likes in the process. Countless people rushed to the comments to share their excitement for the track.

“I’m so ready,” singer Bella Poarch commented.

“When I tell you I am BEYOND excited for this album!” Durand Bernarr wrote.

Lil Nas X is gearing up to release “Sun Goes Down” just weeks after he slid down a pole to hell and gave Satan a lap dance in the music video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”.

The queer anthem ended up topping the charts across the world – and managed to ignite the fury of Christian evangelicals too.

His debut album Montero is expected to be released in the summer of 2021, although no date has been set just yet.

Speaking to British GQ magazine for its May issue, the queer icon revealed that he once believed his attraction to men was part of a “temporary test” from God that he would overcome in time.

“That was one of the main reasons why I never wanted to be gay,” Lil Nas X explained.

“I even thought ‘If I have these feelings, it’s just a test. A temporary test. It’s going to go away. God is just tempting me.'”
