Playable bunny boys are finally coming to Final Fantasy XIV as Endwalker adds male Viera race

Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker male Viera

At long last male Viera, aka bunny boys, are on their way to Final Fantasy XIV in Endwalker.

Previously available as female-only, Viera are one of the many races you can choose to play as in the game, made popular by Fran in Final Fantasy XII.

Frankly, we can’t wait to see fans playing as bunny boys alongside Miqo’te, aka the cat boys. It’s a veritable menagerie.

The news was shared at the Final Fantasy Digital Fan Festival event over the weekend, in which new details on forthcoming expansion Endwalker were revealed.

Alongside the male Viera, a new job was announced: the Reaper. As expected by the name, the Reaper is a scythe-wielding melee class who can summon demonic avatars to fight in battle.

Perhaps the biggest news was a release date for Endwalker: 23 November.

Also shown was the beautiful new water city Old Sharlayan; other new areas like Labyrinthos, Thavnair and Mare Lamentorum; new tribes, threats and raids.

It was all revealed with an impressive new cinematic trailer that features a new song from composer Masayoshi Soken, with vocals by Sam Carter of the band Architects.

In celebration of the rock track, Square Enix have partnered with Fender to create a Final Fantasy themed Stratocaster electric guitar. It will also be available in-game for player characters to perform on.

Before the release of Endwalker, patch 5.55 is set to launch on 25 May, bringing with it a wealth of content.

It includes an extension of the main scenario in preparation for Endwalker; an additional YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse story in the recent NieR crossover; and an update to the “Save the Queen” questline.

In an emotional speech at the end of the event, composer Soken revealed he’s been battling cancer over the past year of development, something he kept secret from the rest of the development team.

It’s the bunny boys, though, that have got fans most excited about the game.
