Ellen DeGeneres “loved kissing ass with all the celebrities” and wasn’t interested in talking to “real” people, a former producer has claimed.

Hedda Muskat joined The Ellen Degeneres Show in 2003 as a producer tasked with booking “human interest guests” – but her experience on the talkshow wasn’t a happy one.

The producer, who was ultimately fired, hit out at Ellen DeGeneres during an appearance on Australian Channel 7’s Sunrise programme.

The Emmy-winning producer said DeGeneres “looked away” and “showed no interest” during pitch meetings, and would make snide comments about non-celebrity guests.

“We had to walk on eggshells with her because when we would be pitching, her snide remarks would be: ‘What am I going to talk to them about? I don’t know, I have nothing to say, I don’t know.’

“So we would write the whole outline for her and the guests would walk off feeling like crap, so it wasn’t goodwill for the show.”

Ellen DeGeneres ‘couldn’t carry a conversation’ with normal people

Ellen DeGeneres was “really not in a position to interview the real people because she couldn’t carry a conversation with them,” Muskat said, adding that she “loved kissing ass with all the celebrities”.

Muskat added: “This is not like, ‘Bah, humbug’ on my end, because I just did my job and went home, but I feel that for the guests, it was bad goodwill for them.

“They just really were not able to connect with her, and as a host, look at Oprah, look at you guys, you know, your guests, no matter how big or how unknown they are, they connect with you.”

Muskat’s comments come just days after DeGeneres announced that she will be leaving her talkshow behind at the end of next year as it’s no longer a “challenge”.

“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun, as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore,” DeGeneres said.

She denied that she is calling it quits because of the toxic workplace scandal the show became embroiled in last year, but admitted that the controversy “destroyed” her.

“I’m not a scary person. I’m really easy to talk to. So, we’ve all learned from things that we didn’t realise – or I didn’t realise – were happening,” DeGeneres said.
