Grimes joined Elon Musk on Saturday Night Live (SNL) for a Super Mario-themed roleplay and yup, it was about as unfunny as it sounds.

In the loudest sign yet that only Armageddon will give us the sweet release we need, Elon Musk hosted SNL this weekend and appeared in a series of questionable sketches.

Many were perturbed by a “Wario” skit in which Musk played Nintendo mascot Mario’s evil brother.

Musk donned a fat suit for the part, waddled up to the stand and spoke in a terrible Italian accent as he was accused by Luigi of killing Mario with a Koopa shell.

Luigi was then accused of sleeping with Princess Peach, played by Musk’s real life girlfriend and musician Grimes. The smoking gun can in the form of a pixellated Luigi nude, accompanied by the iconic PowerUp sound.

For the most part, viewers were unimpressed by the skit.

Though Twitter users praised Grimes for her perky, camp portrayal of Princess Peach.

Though, why she was depicted with an Italian accent the world may never know.

As the world’s second richest man, Elon Musk may seem a strange choice for a comedy show, but considering Donald Trump hosted back in 2015, it could be worse.

In his opening monologue, Musk claimed to be the first person with Aspergers to host SNL, “or at least the first to admit it”.

He also poked fun at the name he and Grimes gave to their child, X Æ A-Xii.

SNL’s a great way to learn something new about the host – for example, this is my son’s name,” he said as X Æ A-Xii flashed on the screen.

“It’s pronounced: ‘cat running across a keyboard’.”

The couple had originally named their baby X Æ A-X12 – slightly less of a tongue-twister – but changed it a few weeks later to reportedly comply with Californian law that doesn’t allow for numbers or symbols in legal names.
