Drag Race Down Under queen delivers shocking Prince Andrew joke in controversial Snatch Game episode

Anita Wigl'it as Queen Elizabeth II

Drag Race Down Under fans were shocked by a Prince Andrew joke in this week’s episode.

Drag queen Anita Wigl’it was gearing up to impersonate Queen Elizabeth II in the Snatch Game when she tried out a practice gag on RuPaul.

In her best royal accent, she quipped: “In my household, we have a long tradition of celebrating anniversaries. When somebody turns 100, I write them a letter. And when somebody turns 16, Prince Andrew writes them a text.”

After telling the joke, Anita asked RuPaul whether the joke was “too far”, to which he replied: “You can’t go too far here. Very funny.” She later confirmed: “I love it. I love it.”

Another gag saw Anita allude to the conspiracy theory surrounding the royals and Princess Diana’s death, with Anita quipping: “Don’t piss me off and wear a seatbelt.”

Initially, Anita seemed nervous about using the Queen’s image to tell such controversial jokes. In a confessional in the episode, she said: “Ru is a big fan [of Queen Elizabeth], and I’m about to verbally destroy every image of the cute older lady.”

The risk paid off for Anita as she brought home the win, while a shocking six queens were placed in the bottom – double the usual three.

According to some sources, there were royal takedowns from Anita that were cut from the BBC iPlayer version.

Australia’s QNews reported that Anita responded to one of Etcetera Etcetera’s answers: “I wish a dingo had taken my baby, then I wouldn’t have to have dealt with Prince Andrew!” Etcetera played Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton, who was wrongfully convicted  or the murder of her own nine-week-old child.

While this didn’t make it to the show in the UK, it was left in the US and Australian versions.

Another joke where Anita talked about her “D-A-P: dry ass pussy” was cut from both the UK and Australian versions.

In a deleted confessional, Etcetera Etcetera reportedly commented: “Anita  is hilarious. I never thought I’d be laughing at the Queen so much. It’s, like, taking all of my power not to start laughing with her behind me talking about her dry ass pussy.”

Despite some of the queens thinking they had smashed the challenge, many Drag Race fans felt the Snatch Game wasn’t up to the standards of the UK or US show, with Etcetera Etecera’s impersonation drawing particular criticism.

The royal jokes, however, were largely a hit.

Among those in the bottom six were Karen from Finance, who played the iconic Dolly Parton, and Elektra Shock, who played Snatch Game as Catherine O’Hara’s Schitt’s Creek character Moira Rose.

In the lip sync, Coco Jumbo, who flopped as Lizzo, battled it out against Art Simone, who delivered a one-note Bindi Irwin. The episode wrapped with frontrunner Art Simone eliminated.
