Bandcamp Friday is the ideal time to support queer musicians – and get your hands on some rare gems.

Bandcamp has been waiving its revenue share on the first Friday of each month throughout the pandemic to support musicians and artists.

This campaign reportedly put $52 million in the hands of artists, from almost 800,000 fans.

So here are five amazing albums you can buy on Bandcamp to support music artists this Friday.

Other-Land by Romo Weeks

Romo Weeks has dropped a new mixtape of original songs and remixes (Beyoncé and Gucci Mane are both present and accounted for) that’s pure summer vibes. Available as a download or on cassette, funds from the release will go towards their top surgery.

Return of the Matriarch by Yo! Majesty

Return of the Matriarch, by gay American duo Yo! Majesty, is “about the return of the divine feminine energy in the earth, which will restore balance and order, where females will rule the world again in this lifetime”.

The Gift by Black Trans Project

Curated by the legendary Neneh Cherry with Lyall Hakaraia, The Gift is a collection of tracks for and by the community.

Funds go to Black trans performers, and the digital album includes contributions from musicians such as Honey Dijon, Angel-Ho and Ms Carrie Stacks. The intro, “Affirmation”, celebrates Georgina Beyer, the world’s first openly trans mayor and MP.

Spotify is Surveillance by Evan Greer

The musician and activist – described by Rage Against the MAchine’s Tom Morello as “a heck of a guitar player” – returns with a political new album that Pitchfork says ” speaks truth to streaming giants, trans exclusionists, and extremely online leftists”.

3.0 by Hunter Hooligan

Described as both an artist and an activist, non-binary artist Hunter Hooligan is back with a new EP. They donate proceeds from their indie pop music to Indigenous-led organisations including Native American Lifelines.
