Tales of Arise PS5: Release date finally confirmed for much-anticipated, unique JRPG

Two years after its announcement and we finally have more details – and a release date – for much-anticipated JRPG Tales of Arise, which will be available on the PS5 and other consoles.
Coming 10 September, this latest game in the Tales series will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in addition to the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions already announced.
Two new videos have given us a look at both the story and the game’s combat.
As the title suggests, Tales of Arise has something of a revolutionary theme. The story revolves around two characters and their home planets.
Alphen, the guy with the big sword, is from the low-tech planet Dahna which was invaded by the planet Rena and enslaved its people.
Rena is where Shionne, the lady with the big gun, is from. Together they’ll team up in a brand new combat system.
The series is known for its Linear Motion Battle System where characters move along linear paths in a 3D space.
In Arise, the battles are fully 3D, much quicker and heavily feature dodge rolls.
Producer Yusuke Tomizawa gave more information in an interview with Famitsu, translated by Gematsu.
He describes the combat as: “speedy battles where you can see through the enemy’s attacks and follow up with a counterattack.”
Regular attacks and dodges can be supported by “Boost Attack”, unique to each character, while a “Boost Strike” can finish off downed enemies. Mystic Artes and Skills typical of the series will also return.
Exploration gameplay also appears more free form, with players able to fully jump and swim their way around each environment.
The series is also beloved for its anime cutscenes, so fans will be happy to hear that Tales of Arise has the largest number of anime scenes in the series yet.
On PS5, the game will make use of the Dual Sense controllers for haptic feedback, for instance differentiating between magic and physical attacks.
A free upgrade for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Seres X/S versions will be available for those who purchase on PS4 or Xbox One. These versions will have performance modes (60 fps) and graphics modes (4K resolution).
