A remake of beloved Star Wars title Knights of the Old Republic is reportedly on the way

A Knights of the Old Republic remake is reportedly on the way, from the developer behind recent Star Wars titles.
That’s Aspyr Media, who have just released their remake of Star Wars: Republic Commando.
The news comes from Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier speaking on the MinnMax Show on YouTube.
“This is public at this point, I’ve basically confirmed Aspyr – which is the company that’s ported a bunch of KOTOR games – is working on the remake,” he said.
The news has been corroborated by Eurogamer who added that the game will be more of a remake than a straight port of the game.
As well as Republic Commando, Aspyr has remade the likes of Star Wars Episode 1: Racer, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast.
They’ve also already released a port of Knights of the Old Republic for iOS.
Knights of the Old Republic is one of the most celebrated Star Wars video games.
It was originally created by Bioware for the original Xbox and released in 2003. It’s a third-person RPG set in the Star Wars universe 4,000 years before the events of A New Hope.
The game was something of a stepping stone towards Bioware’s other sci-fi epic, Mass Effect, which is receiving its own remake released next month in the form of the Legendary Edition.
A sequel to Knights of the Old Republic called The Sith Lords was released in 2004 and created by a different studio, Obsidian (known for RPGs Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity and The Outer Worlds).
However, due to time pressures, the sequel was released in what was considered an unfinished state, with a lot of content removed at a late stage. As a result, fans of both titles have eagerly awaited a new game in the series.
Aspyr are yet to comment officially on the project, so release details or platforms are unknown.
