Drag Race royalty Jinkx Monsoon to judge glitzy Overwatch Mei Gala cosplaying event

Overwatch Mei Gala

Iconic drag artist Jinkx Monsoon will be on the judging panel for the first ever Mei Gala Overwatch cosplay event.

The live red carpet event takes place next month and has been named as a nod to the MET Gala that usually takes place at this time, but has been moved this year to September.

The event is hosted by the Overwatch League and will feature popular cosplayers from around the world showing off their hand-crafted looks.

A panel of judges from across esports, fashion and drag will be offering live commentary throughout the virtual runway stream.

They include season five Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon and lead character artist on Overwatch Renaud Galand, with more to be announced.

Overwatch League commentator Soe Gschwind will be the Gala’s host.

Participating cosplayers include the likes of AznProblemsCosplay, Gustavo, JohnnyJunkers, Polygon Forge and many more.

The theme of the gala is “Our Best is Us”, aimed to reflect the diversity of the Overwatch community and the coming together of fashion, gaming and cosplay.

Jinkx, like many drag queens, is a gaming nerd and huge fan of Overwatch. So who better to help judge the runway and the crafty fashion of the attending cosplayers?

Overwatch has garnered a strong queer following since its release back in 2016, thanks to its diverse range of characters – even if its queer representation is outside of the games.

Tracer, the poster character for the game, is a lesbian, while Soldier 76 was confirmed as gay back in 2019. Both of these reveals were in related comics, rather than the game itself.
