Tactical RPG Empire of Angels IV coming to Switch, PlayStation and Xbox this summer

Empire of Angels IV

Empire of Angels IV, the latest in the tactical RPG series, will be arriving on Switch, PlayStation and Xbox this summer.

The release marks the first time the series will be available on console since it began in 1993.

Thankfully the game stands alone, with no prior knowledge of the series required for this new release. It’s already available on PC via Steam.

Empire of Angels IV features an all-female cast of characters, all voiced in Chinese and now with newly revised English subtitles.

Set in the fantasy world of Asgard, the game’s narrative balances political intrigue with light-hearted character interactions.

You can even shatter your female opponents’ armour, if that’s your thing.

More story details are given in a brand new trailer that shows off the colourful anime aesthetic.

Battles, meanwhile, feature a chibi art style with strategic turn-based combat, a deep job system, and “marvellous angelic super-skills”.

Over a dozen female warriors can join your team who can all access multiple class trees and unit types and can be customised to adapt to different battle conditions. Monster skills can also be unlocked in a unique pet system.

It’s all inspired by the best games of the genre: the likes of Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Final Fantasy Tactics.

From Chinese developer Softstar, known for their role-playing and puzzle games, Empire of Angels IV will be published by Eastasiasoft who specialise in Western releases of East Asian titles.

Switch physical pre-orders open on 22 April. A limited edition release will include the game and manual alongside a CD soundtrack and numbered certificate in a collector’s box.

The series began in 1993 with an MS-DOS game. It’s continued with five PC games in total and five released on mobile.

Empire of Angels IV was originally released in 2016 for PC and mobile.
