Gus Kenworthy to be Colton Underwood’s ‘gay guide’ in new reality show, according to reports

Colton Underwood Gus Kenworthy Netflix gay

Colton Underwood will reportedly star in a Netflix reality television show about his life as an openly gay man – with Gus Kenworthy as his “gay guide“.

The former The Bachelor star, long dogged by speculation about his sexuality as well as allegations of stalking his ex-partner, Cassie Randolph, came out as gay Wednesday (14 April).

And within hours, reports heaved that Underwood, once the star of ABC’s most aggressively heterosexual reality TV juggernaut, has scored his own show all about being gay.

Sources alleged to The Hollywood Reporter, TMZ and Variety that the 29-year-old’s show is already in production. Neither Netflix nor representatives of Underwood responded to the publications’ comment requests.

Colton Underwood Netflix show filmed outside Stonewall, sources say

In a similar vein to Caitlin Jenner’s I Am Cait, sources said that Colton Underwood’s programme will centre on him being “eased” into life as an openly gay man, whatever that means.

Gus Kenworthy’s role in the show was described by Variety as being a “guide, of sorts, for Underwood”.

While TMZ said that it won’t just be Kenworthy tagging alongside Underwood – “other prominent members of the LBGT+ community” will also feature, it is understood.

Filming is also well underway for what is reportedly a docuseries, insiders told Page Six.

Colton Underwood was spotted with the British-American Olympian alongside his father, Scott Underwood, walking outside pet store CitiPups in Greenwich Village – on the same block as the historic Stonewall Inn – in New York City.

“Colton began filming prior to going on Good Morning America,” a source told the outlet. “The docuseries has been in the works for a few weeks.”

“He was walking into Stonewall alone, but they were clearly filming,” an eyewitness claimed. “There was a red carpet rope, so it was clear it was a private event.

“Twenty minutes later, there was a camera crew outside,” they added, before noting that other filming locations appeared to include the Mondrian Park Avenue hotel and the Supreme store in Soho.

The former NFL football player and season 14 Bachelorette contestant came out as gay in a heartfelt interview with Good Morning America, where he reflected on his time on the Bachelor as well as his battered mental health.

“I’ve ran from myself for a long time,” Underwood said in the interview.

“I’ve hated myself for a long time. And I’m gay.

“I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it, and the next step in all of this was sort of letting people know.”
After his first appearance in 2018’s The Bachelorette, Colton Underwood quickly became a fan-favourite, with his virginity was made into one of the show’s major plot lines by producers.

“I could never give anybody a good enough answer about why I was a virgin,” Underwood recalled.

“The truth is I was ‘the virgin Bachelor’ because I was gay, and I didn’t know how to handle that.”
