Singer Becky Hill proudly comes out as queer: ‘I’ve felt uncomfortable branding myself as straight’
Singer Becky Hill has come out as queer, saying it is the most “fitting identity” for who she is.
The 27-year-old confirmed the news on Twitter on Sunday evening (11 April) after a fan asked her if she had “come out yet”.
“We’re all waiting to welcome you and it’s almost Pride season!” the fan wrote.
Sharing the tweet, Hill wrote: “OK here it goes… I’m not 100 per cent on this (still figuring myself out) but I *think* I’m queer!”

“If anyone could personify ‘hard work pays off’ it’s you. You’ve been an example to everyone for so long without even knowing it,” one fan wrote, adding: “Welcome to the family!”
Only ever been myself and hoping everyone else feels they can do the same!
Hill replied: “This is absolutely lovely, thank you so much! Only ever been myself & hoping everyone else feels they can do the same!! The warmest of welcomes. I’m not just a visitor anymore!”
Others spoke of their love and respect for the singer, praising her for opening up to the world about who she is.

Hill quickly amassed a huge LGBT+ following when she appeared as a contestant on the 2012 series of The Voice UK. She was eliminated from the competition in the semi-finals.
She went on to release her debut album Get to Know in 2019 and has had a string of singles, including “Last Time”, which was released in March of this year.
Hill was among the performers who took to the stage at Manchester Pride in 2019, when Ariana Grande headlined.
