JoJo Siwa tells young fans ‘you can love a girl, boy or somebody who is non-binary, and that is incredible’
JoJo Siwa paid tribute to her “amazing” girlfriend and told young fans they can be in love “with a girl, a boy or somebody who is non-binary, [and] that is incredible”.
The social media star presented the award for Outstanding Children’s Programming at the virtual event, which was hosted by Niecy Nash.
Before presenting the award to The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo, JoJo Siwa spoke of her pride in being a visible member of the LGBT+ community after she came out in January.
“I have the best, most amazing, wonderful girlfriend in the entire world who makes me so, so, so happy, and that is all that matters,” Siwa said at the GLAAD Media Awards.
“I think it’s really cool now that kids all around the world who look up to me can now see that loving who you want to love is totally awesome.”
JoJo Siwa thinks queer love should be ‘celebrated’
She continued: “If you want to fall in love with a girl, if you want to fall in love with a boy, if you want to fall with somebody who is a they/them or who is non-binary, that is incredible.

“Love is awesome. You can be in love with whoever you want to be in love with and it should be celebrated, and amazingly now today in the world it is.”
JoJo Siwa went on to praise GLAAD and the Trevor Project for their work in supporting LGBT+ youth who are stuck in “unsupportive or unsafe” environments before presenting the award to Elmo.
The TikTok star first came out in January, posting a photo of herself on Twitter wearing a t-shirt with the slogan: “Best gay cousin ever.” The post was captioned: “My cousin got me a new shirt.”
She later clarified that she was not ready to label her sexuality just yet. In a recent interview with People, she said she knew she was queer since she was a child and revealed that hateful comments about her sexuality stopped her from sleeping for three days after she came out.
“I still don’t know what I am,” Siwa said. “It’s like, I want to figure it out. But like, I don’t know, bisexual, pansexual, queer, lesbian, gay, straight. I always just say gay because it just kind of covers it or queer because I think the keyword is cool.
“I like queer. Technically I would say that I am pansexual because that’s how I have always been my whole life is just like, my human is my human.”
