Mike Pence is writing not one, but two books about his ‘journey as a Christian’ and sucking up to Trump
Ex-vice president Mike Pence will be paid millions to write a two-book memoir about his “journey as a Christian” and working under Donald Trump.
Pence’s book deal with Simon & Schuster was announced Wednesday (7 April), with CNN reporting that the deal is worth a seven figures sum between $3 million (£2.2 million) and $4 million (£2.9 million).
The anti-LGBT+ politician told The Guardian in a statement: “I am grateful to have the opportunity to tell the story of my life in public service to the American people, from serving in Congress, to the Indiana governor’s office and as vice-president of the United States.
“I look forward to working with the outstanding team at Simon & Schuster to invite readers on a journey from a small town in Indiana to Washington DC.”
Dana Canedy, vice president of the publishing house, said the two books would cover “life and work, his journey as a Christian, the challenges and triumphs he has faced, and the lessons he has learned, [and] tells an American story of extraordinary public service during a time of unrivalled public interest in our government and politics”.
She added: “His revelatory autobiography will be the definitive book on one of the most consequential presidencies in American history.”
Mike Pence has continued to make a career out of hate
