Singer-songwriter Kehlani has revealed that she “finally knows” she’s a lesbian, after previously coming out as queer and pansexual.

In an Instagram Live video, Kehlani told her followers: “You wanna know what’s new about me? I finally know I’m a lesbian!” Another person in the video with her shouted: “Bomb drop!”

As the clip circulated on social media, fans expressed how happy they were for the singer, and how grateful they felt for the visibility, especially as Kehlani uses she/they pronouns.

One wrote: “Not only is Kehlani a lesbian, they’re a she/they lesbian.

“Y’all don’t understand how seen I feel. Her music and lyrics I’ve always related to and I know now I’m just gonna connect even more.”

Another wrote: “So wait… Kehlani is a she/they lesbian too…? Just like me…? OH MY GOD I AM IN TEARS. I’M SO HAPPY. HAPPY TEARS AAAAAHH!!!”

Some fans agreed that Kehlani’s realisation meant she needed a new title, with one writing: “I am very sorry Hayley Kiyoko, but if Kehlani is indeed a lesbian she gets the ‘Lesbian Jesus’ title by default.”

Kehlani initially came out as queer in 2018, sharing on Twitter: “Cuz i keep geddin asked… I’m queer. Not bi, not straight. I’m attracted to women, men, REALLY attracted to queer men, non-binary people, intersex people, trans people.

“Lil poly pansexual papi hello good morning. Does that answer your questions?”

In an interview with Diva Magazine in 2020, Kehlani said she was “definitely on the non-binary scale”.

“I still prefer and am totally fine with the pronoun ‘she’,” she added.

“My energy has always been extremely fluid between masculine and feminine so that’s why I use ‘queer’, and also, queer is inclusive to non-binary people.”

In December of last year, the singer updated her pronouns on Twitter to read “she/ they”.
