Queer and bedroom pop icon Girl in Red is going on tour across the UK and Ireland in 2022.

The singer-songwriter will perform four dates next spring with tickets going on sale on Thursday, 1 April via Ticketmaster and See Tickets.

The tour will kick off in Glasgow and visit Dublin, Manchester before finishing up in London at The Roundhouse.

It’s in support of her upcoming debut album If I Could Make It Go Quiet which is due for release on 30 April.

In an interview with NME she said the upcoming album is the “start of a new phase” in her career, adding: “I feel like people will definitely get to know a more mature version of me. I’ve been able to reflect way more on things that are not only happening on my behalf, but also understanding other people’s feelings.”

And although the majority of the album was crafted during lockdown in 2020 she’s confirmed that she definitely isn’t “going to make any coronavirus songs.”

It follows up her two EPs Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 as well as her breakthrough stand alone single “We Fell in Love in October” which found success on the alternative charts in the UK and US.

Her increasing popularity online led to the “do you listen to Girl in Red?” meme, which is basically code for “are you gay?” and has since been immortalised on tote bags, t-shirts and more.

However she’s distanced herself from both straight and gay fans labelling her music as “queer music”, saying her “bops are for everyone.”

In a post on Instagram she called some social media users out saying: “‘even tho i’m not gay, i like this song a lot’ b***h thanks, but that’s like saying no homo and tbh its so annoying cause it feels like u need to distance urself from the music in fear of being associated with something remotely queer as that would be a bad thing whoops tea.”

Fans can expect to hear new tracks from the album alongside popular tracks from her back catalogue during the four-date UK and Ireland tour.

Tickets are priced between £16.50-£20, plus booking fees and go on sale at 10am on Thursday, 1 April via Ticketmaster and See Tickets.
