Janelle Monáe stars in a brand new thriller film Antebellum that’s being released in the UK on 2 April.

The upcoming film with a controversial twist is from the same producers who brought us hit horror films Get Out and Us.

Antebellum is one of many films that has been forced to skip a theatrical release due to cinema closures across the globe over the past year.

It received a digital release in the US in September 2020 but UK viewers have had to wait a little longer, and they can now watch it through Sky Cinema and NOW from 2 April.

The plot follows one woman, played by Janelle Monáe, who lives two different lives, one in the present where she’s a successful business woman and another where she finds herself in a Southern slave plantation and needs to find a way to escape.

We don’t want to give too much away from the full plot of the film, but you can watch the latest trailer below ahead of its release in April.

The supporting cast includes Oscar-nominated Gabourey Sidibe, Jena Malone best known for her role in The Hunger Games series, Eric Lange and Jack Huston.

The film became one of the most popular on-demand releases in the US last year alongside the likes of Mulan and The Invisible Man but it received mixed reviews from critics, who felt it didn’t live up to the premise.

If you want to find out if Antebellum is a thriller worth watching for yourself then all you need to know is below.

How to stream Antebellum

The film will be released from 2 April on Sky Cinema and NOW in the UK.

Viewers can sign up for a NOW Cinema Pass with a seven-day free trial and then pay £11.99 per month. To find out more and to sign up go to nowtv.com. The NowTV passes can be streamed via Sky, Amazon Fire TV Stick, BT and more.

Alternatively you can add Sky Cinema to your existing TV package at sky.com or Virgin Media and watch the film for ‘free’ as part of the package.

Meanwhile it’s available to rent in the US from platforms including Amazon Prime Video.
