New photo of Queen Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana leaves fans blown away

Kristen Stewart and Princess Diana

Kristen Stewart is transformed into Princess Diana in a new picture from her upcoming royal biopic.

Stewart plays the princess in Spencer, a new film that focuses on a final weekend Diana spent with the Royal Family at Sandringham before deciding to divorce from Prince Charles.

In a new promotional photo Stewart shares an unlikely resemblance with Diana, wearing an outfit modelled on one the princess wore in 1989 during a visit to Portsmouth.

Stewart smiles with her hand on her chin, showing off a replica of Diana’s sapphire engagement ring. She is wearing a white high-necked top, a tartan coat and Diana’s iconic cropped blond hair.

Many fans were once again bowled over by the transformation.

According to a press release, the film will be set in December 1991, depicting a weekend of Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham estate.

“There’s eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. This year, things will be a whole lot different.”

Kristen Stewart has previously explained how Spencer, directed by  Pablo Larrain, will explore Diana’s life from a different point of view.

Spencer is a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal point in her life

‘It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold onto what the name Spencer means to her.

Stewart will star alongside Jack Farthing, Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins and Sean Harris. There is no release date for the film yet.

Fans were given their first look at Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana back in January and were instantly impressed

“I take back any doubts I had about Kristen Stewart portraying Princess Diana – she has it nailed here,” tweeted one fan. “The only remaining worry is the accent…”

When Spencer was announced, the biopic’s director Pablo Larraín told Variety: “Kristen is one of the great actors around today.

“To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery.

“Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile an ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need.”

He added: “The way she responded to the script and how she is approaching the character, it’s very beautiful to see.

“I think she’s going to do something stunning and intriguing at the same time. She is this force of nature.”
