The popular action-adventure game Ghost of Tsushima is coming to the big screen, with John Wick director Chad Stahelski in the hot seat.

Making the announcement on Thursday (25 March) on Twitter, PlayStation has revealed that Ghost of Tsushima is getting its directorial debut. Both Sony Pictures, PlayStation Productions, and Sucker Punch Productions are partnering up for a live-action version of the samurai hit, which looks set for release in 2022.

The game, which saw its release last year, is a third-person open-world stealth game that sees players control Jin Sakai, a samurai on a quest to protect Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan.

The film, which is set to adapt Ghost of Tsushima‘s story, will follow the journey of samurai warrior Jin Sakai as he fights for the freedom of the isle of Tsushima.

Nate Fox, the game director at Sucker Punch Productions, posted an official statement on the PlayStation Blog, discussing the new partnership as well as their reasoning for picking Chad Stahelski.

“We are happy to partner with Sony Pictures to make this happen,” he said.

“And Jin is in very good hands with the film’s director. Chad Stahelski created something special with John Wick. His vision for what could be, backed up by years of experience, combined to create some of the finest action scenes ever created. If anyone could bring to life the razor-sharp tension of Jin’s katana combat, it’s Chad Stahelski.”

“I know I speak for everyone at Sucker Punch by sending out a massive THANK YOU to Ghost fans. Your support for the game is what makes opportunities like a movie come true. It’s been a sincere pleasure checking out your photo-mode images posted online and fighting alongside you in Legends. We’re so happy to be on this ride with you”.

Ghost of Tsushima is available on both PS4 and PS5 in the PlayStation store.
