Evan Peters is set to play prolific convicted sex offender, serial killer and cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer in a new Ryan Murphy Netflix series.

The Wandavision star has bagged the eponymous role in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. The new Ryan Murphy series will explore Dahmer’s string of slayings from his victims’ perspectives, according to Deadline

He will be joined by Niecy Nash, known for her work on Murphy’s hit Scream Queens.

Nash will play Glenda Cleveland, Dahmer’s neighbour who desperately tried to alert police and the FBI to his alarming behaviour.

The pair will star alongside Penelope Ann Miller and Richard Jenkins as Dahmer’s mother and father Joyce and Lionel. Shaun Brown picks up the role of Tracy Edwards, Dahmer’s intended final victim who fought against him and escaped.

It is understood Colin Ford has been cast as a character called Chazz.

The 10-part series will be co-created by Ian Brennan, Murphy’s longtime collaborator who has worked with the writer on Glee and The Politician.

Pose’s Janet Mock and Mindhunter‘s Carl Franklin are on board to direct.

Who was Jeffrey Dahmer?

For more than a decade, Jeffrey Dahmer, a former chocolate factory worker, waged a chilling campaign of death and dismemberment, necrophilia and cannibalism.

The so-called Milwaukee Cannibal murdered 17 men, many underage and people of colour, between 1978 and 1991.

Meeting many of his victims in bars, bus stops, bookstores and shopping malls, Dahmer killed 16 people in Wisconsin and one in his hometown, the well-to-do suburb of Bath Township, Ohio.

His playbook was one of skin-crawling violence. Drugging their drinks, he would lure victims to his place in Milwaukee with promises of a six-pack of beer in exchange for posing for nude photographs.

When in his apartment, he would wait for his victim to fall unconscious before strangling and stabbing them. Dahmer stored some of thire remains, including one person’s heart, in his refrigerator and ate part of at least one victim’s arm.

Dahmer was eventually arrested after an intended victim, Tracy Edwards narrowly escaped after spending several chilling hours with the killer.

Edwards had seen in Dahmer’s home a 57-gallon drum used for decomposing bodies – it had a foul odour, he later recalled. At one point, Dahmer nestled his face in Edwards’ chest to hear his heartbeat before proclaiming he intended to devour it.

But as a videotape of The Exorcist III hummed in the background, Edwards punched Dahmer in the face and fled, stumbling onto the street with a handcuff dangling from his wrist as he flagged down the police.

Dahmer confessed to killing and dismembering 17 young men and was convicted of 15 of the 16 in the state of Wisconsin.

In 1994, he was bludgeoned to death in prison with a broomstick by an inmate at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, aged 34.
