Fashion designer Rick Owens is teaming up with Dr Martens for a unique collaboration, which will go on-sale on 20 March.

It sees the brand’s 1460 platform boot get a revamp from the eccentric designer, who infuses his grunge and vampy style into the shoe.

The boot features Owens’ trademark dramatic laces, a double-height sole and side zip alongside the recognisable Dr Martens’ yellow stitching.

The reimagining of the brand’s classic silhouette that they say is “long overdue,” will be released for sale on 20 March exclusively online.

The bisexual fashion designer said: “When I was a teen and becoming physically aware, I saw how a tightly laced ankle leading to a broad solidly planted foot had a simple, modest, industrial masculinity – almost like a corset between a muscled calf and a sturdy foot that acted as a stoic ballast. DMs exemplified this the best.

“I saw them on all the guys flying through the air at the shows I went to then… Fear… Black Flag… The Screamers… Alien Sex Fiend. Dr Martens became a symbol of a raw and sweaty vitality that I thought I might be able to pull off… and for a minute, I think I did…”

He added that teaming up with Dr Martens 40 years later is “coming full circle” and a nod to the “recklessness of youth.”

This marks another big collaboration for Dr Martens this year, with a collection inspired by Keith Haring’s iconic artwork also going on sale, plus they also teamed up with pop culture phenom Hello Kitty.

Meanwhile Owens has previously teamed up with Converse, marking the first time the brand ever had a style with a square toe cap.

Talking about the unusual design which polarized fans, he said: “When I see something ubiquitous, I feel like I want to distort it.”

The collaboration between Rick Owens and Dr Martens is expected to be in high demand when its release this March.
