Divina de Campo is starring in the 2021 UK tour of hit musical Chicago – tickets, dates and more
The RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star will appear in a new version of the classic show which is touring across the country from September 2021.
Red wig and a silver dress we don’t think, as she’ll be taking on the role of the sensationalist reporter, Mary Sunshine.
This means the fan favourite will be able to put to use her four and a half octave range, ability to sing in five languages and 15 years of experience – all while doing the splits – on the tour!
As well as having a solo number in “A Little Bit of Good”, the character has traditionally been played by a man in stage productions as the character is ‘revealed’ to be male at the end of the show.
It’s unknown if this will be the case in the upcoming UK tour show, but Divina de Campo will continue the tradition of gay icons playing the character after Christine Baranski played Mary in the film adaption of the musical.
Joining Divina de Campo in the show will be Coronation Street’s Faye Brookes, who will take on the role of Roxie Hart, pop star Sinitta and leading West End stars Djalenga Scott and Joel Montague.
The show, as if you didn’t know already, is set amongst razzle dazzle decadence of the 1920s. It follows Roxie Hart, a housewife who dreams of being a star on the stage.
After murdering her lover she dupes the public, media and rival cellmate Velma Kelly by hiring Billy Flynn, Chicago’s best criminal lawyer, who will transform her crime into sensational headlines and eventually make her a star.
This all plays out alongside an iconic soundtrack which features, “All That Jazz”, “Cell Block Tango”, “When You’re Good to Mama” and “Nowadays”.

The original Broadway production of the show by Bob Fosse opened in 1975 and has since become one of the longest running shows ever.
In 2002 it was adapted into a hugely successful Oscar-winning feature film that starred Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger as Velma and Roxie.
