Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has absolutely destroyed Republicans over Kevin McCarthy’s bizarre obsession with Dr Seuss and “cancel culture”.

Democrats in the House of Representatives successfully passed an enormous $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package on Wednesday (10 March), offering much needed support to countless Americans whose lives have been impacted by the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Republicans have spent the last week raging over Dr Seuss’ estate’s decision to cease publication of six books because they “portray people in ways that are hurtful or wrong”.

On Saturday (6 March), house minority leader Kevin McCarthy was widely mocked when he shared a video of himself reading the Dr Seuss classic Green Eggs and Ham on Twitter.

“I still like Dr Seuss, so I decided to read Green Eggs and Ham,” McCarthy tweeted, conveniently ignoring the fact that the book is not one of the six titles consigned to the annals of history.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed Republicans for focusing on Dr Seuss

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez absolutely eviscerated McCarthy and his fellow Republicans for their fury at “cancel culture” while Americans are still dying from COVID-19 at alarming rates.

The hugely popular congresswoman reflected on the strides made by Democrats in Congress over the last week.

“Dems: Passed $1.9T COVID package to deliver stimulus checks (w/dependents!), cut child poverty in half, extend $300 UI, prevent cuts in state + local services, largest-ever investment in Native communities, etc.

“GOP: Took a week to read The Cat in the Hat.”

McCarthy’s latest obsession comes after Dr Seuss Enterprises, the company tasked with preserving the author’s legacy, confirmed to the Associated Press that it would stop reprinting six titles.

“Ceasing sales of these books is only part of our commitment and our broader plan to ensure Dr Seuss Enterprises’ catalogue represents and supports all communities and families,” the company said.

The news sent Republicans into a frenzy, while Texas senator Ted Cruz used the decision as an opportunity to lash out at Joe Biden, blaming him for the company’s choice to stop printing the books.
