Frozen the Musical announces West End reopening date: tickets, prices and more
Frozen the Musical has finally confirmed it will be reopening on the West End in 2021.
It was originally expected to debut on the West End in October 2020 but due to the global pandemic it was pushed back to spring 2021.
Following the government’s announcement of the roadmap out of lockdown, the musical will now open at the end of summer 2021 as long as it is safe to do so.
It continues the good news for UK theatre which has had its doors closed for an entire 12 months, as a number of big productions including The Rocky Horror Show, SIX and Les Misérables have also confirmed reopening dates.
The musical version of Frozen features songs by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez who also wrote the soundtrack for the Oscar-winning 2013 film and its sequel.
The setlist will include popular songs like “Let It Go”, “Do You Want to Build a Snowman” and “For the First Time in Forever” as well as new material.
Samantha Banks and Stephanie McKeon star as Elsa and Anna in the West End adaption, who have previously appeared in Les Misérables and Beautiful – The Carole King Musical.
Banks also features in a brand new behind-the-scenes trailer that gives fans a glimpse of what to expect including groundbreaking sets and stunning costumes, and you can watch it below.
The story is similar to the film version as it takes audiences to the magical world of Arendelle and focuses on Elsa who is gifted with ice-manipulating powers.
Alongside her sister Anna, the pair try to lead their nation but after tensions arise Elsa runs away from home and creates a guarded ice castle far, far away.
It will feature popular characters including Olaf, Sven, Kristoff and Prince Hans who all head out to the frozen mountains to find Elsa.
The musical premiered on Broadway in 2018 and went on to receive three Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score.
Since its success there are planned productions across the globe in Melbourne, Hamburg and Tokyo once pandemic restrictions are eased.
