With battle royale games all the rage right now, you might be wondering how to get better at Fortnite. If so, we’ve got you covered.

Since its release back in 2017, Fortnite has become one of the biggest and most popular battle royale games on the planet. With more than 350 million players, the free-to-play game has gone on to become a fan fave with celebrities like Joe Jonas and Drake expressing their admiration for it.

Over the last four years, Fortnite has expanded to new heights, featuring in-game collaborations with Marvel, Disney, and even a giant-sized Travis Scott so ahead of its new season (which is imminent – you can read all about it here), here’s a full guide to how to get better at Fortnite.

Master the art of landing

Fortnite Landing

Like Apex Legends and Call of Duty, most battle royale games start with the player jumping out of a floating bus or ship. Your first minute of the game is all about life or death and your landing strategy in every match pretty much determines whether or not you make it or you don’t. In short, the first step when it comes to how to get better at Fortnite is nailing your landing.

If you want to get to the ground as fast as possible, avoid any high obstacles that can get in the way of your landing. Operating your parachute is a key component of this. Always try to land somewhere where there will be enough room for you to prepare for what’s ahead. Aiming for low terrain will guarantee you easier opportunities to collect loot.

Equip the best weapons and stay stealthy

Your second step when it comes to how to get better at Fortnite is to always land next to a weapon. The faster you hit the ground, the faster you can grab a gun and stay alive.  Your loadout plays a super important role in your gameplay. Everyone’s play style is different and it’s important for you to figure out what weapon works best for you.

With a variety of weapons from the tactical shotgun to the sniper rifle, your choice of weapon can make or break your battle against another player. Don’t be specific when it comes to obtaining a weapon at first, you can always swap what you first grab for your ideal choice later. Just get your hands on a gun.

Look out for chests and don’t forget the building materials

Step three in how to get better at Fortnite is the following rule: if you find a chest in Fortnite, ALWAYS open it. Inside the chest could be your ideal weapon as well as other treats that will help you during battle.

Of all the things the chest may have, two of the most important pieces of equipment are shield potion and a medkit, two things you should always remember to pick up in-game. Building materials are also important. While building yourself a flight of stairs or a place of refuge may not be at the top of some people’s list when playing, gathering materials is actually an extremely important part of the game.

STAY OUT OF THE STORM!

Epic Games

The storm is one of the battle royale’s key ingredients, forcing players into each others’ paths as they struggle to stay within the ever-shrinking Safe Zone. Maintaining your health gives you a higher chance of surviving and making it to the top. Remember, defending yourself from other players does impact your health so imagine what being in the ring can do in addition to that. Surviving the storm will give you a better chance of setting up and preparing yourself to ultimately win.

What to avoid?

  • Don’t head straight into the big town, well-advanced players always land there looking for easy players to pick off first.
  • Other players crafted buildings: don’t go near them.
  • Don’t get caught up in looking for players to kill. Survival comes first.
  • Do not, we repeat, do not forget about your building materials.
  • If you’re being shot at, don’t just run, shoot back!
  • Stay out of fights that have nothing to do with you.

Try playing on another platform to better your advantage

With Fortnite now being available on several different platforms, your big breakthrough as a master of the game could actually involve playing it on a different device than you’re used to. Also, changing the sensitivity level settings you play with can make playing better. Whether you’re using a PlayStation, an Xbox or a keyboard and mouse, changing the sensitivity can sometimes help steady your aim.
