Doom 3, After the Fall and more explosive games coming soon to PlayStation VR

PlayStation VR - After The Fall

Sony’s new PlayStation VR might be a ways off yet, but there are still plenty of games to look forward to.

Six brand new VR games have just been announced in a new PS VR Spotlight, many of which are due out this year.

And don’t forget, the current VR system is compatible with PlayStation 5 if you’re lucky enough to own the new console.

We take a look at the announced games revealed on the PlayStation blog.

Doom 3: VR Edition

Not a new sequel to last year’s Doom Eternal, this is a re-release of the 2004 horror shooter enhanced for PS VR. Now you really can step into the boots of The Doom Marine as you blast through hordes of Hellish demons, angling shots with the motion controller and peering around corners. It’s due out on 29 March.

Song in the Smoke

Survival games are all the rage at the moment and in Song in the Smoke you’ll be scavenging for supplies, crafting weapons and hunting predators from behind the headset. Set in a seemingly prehistoric world, your survival is enhanced through motion controls as you venture into the darkness to slay beasts. It’ll be out later this year.

Fracked

“It’s the end of the fracking world,” says the trailer for this amusing action adventure due out in the summer. With its explosive first person shooting, it aims to immerse you in your very own high-octane action film as you rush through a mountain fracking facility. Just don’t tell RuPaul.

I Expect You To Die 2: The Spy And The Liar

The sequel to the award winning I Expect You To Die, this will once more throw you into espionage puzzles where you use your telekinetic abilities to thwart an evil organisation. Searching for clues, bomb disposal and solving mysteries are all part of the game in this spy spoof.

Zenith

Anime, MMOs and VR combine in this new title. The stylised world is full of vibrant environments and hyper-futuristic cities, in which you can freely explore, soar through the skies, and experience tactile hand-to-hand combat. And being online, you can join up with friends and participate in public events, dungeons and more.

After the Fall

After the Fall was first announced back in 2019 and will be coming soon to PSVR. The game is set in a frozen post-apocalyptic world heavily inspired by ‘80s culture that sees you fighting against undead monsters called the snowbreed. A gameplay trailer is due in the next couple of weeks, so we’ll find out plenty more about this exciting looking title.
