Britney Spears paused for thought after the “crazy year” she’s had, stressing to her 28 million followers that it’s “OK to cry”.

Sharing a photograph of a street decorated with pink umbrellas on Instagram Monday (1 March) the singer said she is dedicating time to “heal”.

“On all accounts of the craziness the past year … I feel like God’s tears have hit all of us with what the world has been through due to coronavirus,” Britney wrote.

“This new year should be a year of cleansing our inner selves with meditation … prayer… any kind of hobby that brings joy… and being conscious of what we put in our bodies as well.”

She added: “This all helps us to have a clear mind … body … spirit and offers so much more clarity in our everyday lives !!!!

“This year I devote myself to lots of tea and healing !!!! I’m working on allowing myself to not be so strong all the time and to know it’s OK to cry!!!

“I pray for deep healing this year for all of us and I hope we can all inspire each other !!!! Again … BE KIND – PASS IT ON AMERICA.”

Britney Spears’ Instagram account is a mixed – and often cryptic – bag

Britney Spears’ Instagram account has for years been one of her fans’ few windows into her life.

She often shares inspirational quotes, whether they be words from Frederic Neitzche or calls to overthrow capitalism. She also offers important updates, such as that she has burned down her home gym or broken the speed of sound.

Fans often attempt to decode her posts, believe they contain hidden messages for the #FreeBritney movement.

The movement has sprung into action in recent years, campaigning to free Britney from the conservatorship she has been under since 2008 which has seen her well-being and financial estate controlled largely by her father, Jamie Spears.

Britney sought to remove Jamie from the complex legal arrangement last year, with her legal counsel arguing that she was “afraid” of him. Nevertheless, judges moved to keep Jamie on.

The conservatorship saga, alongside the wing of dedicated fans moving to liberate her, featured in the recent Framing Britney Spears documentary. The film has fuelled further fan outcry over Britney’s situation, and has sparked renewed scrutiny of her treatment by the press and other high-profile figures. Some have owned up for how they treated the musician in the late 2000s. Others have not.

As well as the toxic treatment she received from paparazzi, Framing Britney Spears touched on the sexist backlash the star received after her break-up with Justin Timberlake, prompting an apology from the singer.
