Pike accepted the award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture for her starring role in the new Netflix film I Care A Lot from a hotel room, wearing a huge, bright red, tulle gown and combat boots.
In the film, which is available on Netflix in the US and Amazon Prime Video internationally, Pike plays con artist Marla Grayson, a court-appointed guardian who steals from the elderly.
The relationship between the protagonist and her girlfriend and business partner Fran, played by Mexican actor Eiza González, captured the hearts of queer viewers, with many branding them lesbian icons.

Rosamund Pike ‘honoured’ by lesbian icon title
Asked by Variety whether she knew she was now a lesbian icon and what she thought of it, Pike responded: “I am honoured by it. I am delighted by it. I am savouring every minute of it.
“Because, goodness me, to be accepted, isn’t that what we all want? And if Marla and Fran have been accepted in the public imagination, then that is just magnificent.”

“We got so close, and what a wonderful thing it was.”
Asked about her incredible Molly Goddard dress, she said: “It’s extraordinary to be all dressed up in a hotel room on your own, all dressed up and nowhere to go… I did have some more sensible options, but I thought this is an outlying year that calls for outlying options.”
