Following the big Nintendo presentation that happened this week, here’s everything you need to know about Nintendo Switch Online.
To enhance your gaming experience, Nintendo offers a variety of choices that allow you to experience online play in the best way. Giving you the opportunity to enjoy competitive and co-operative online gaming with friends and rivals from all around the world by purchasing one of their memberships, here’s what comes to expect when you join Nintendo Online.
Online Play
If you join the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership service, you’ll be able to play cooperatively or competitively in compatible titles, with friends living far away, or against rivals around the world. You can also use the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app to voice chat* while you play compatible games like the latest Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, Overcooked! 2, and the popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
How much are membership plans?
For a single account individual membership, you have the choices of 1 month (30 days) for £3.49 (€3.99), 3 months (90 days) for £6.99 (€7.99), or 12 months (365 days) for £17.99 (€19.99). If you create a Family Group, up to eight Nintendo accounts can use the Nintendo Switch Online membership service under one Family Membership.
You can purchase 12 months (365 days) for £31.49 (€34.99). The membership can then be purchased and applied to your Nintendo Account Family Group, enabling all Nintendo Accounts in that group to enjoy the Nintendo Switch Online membership service.
NES & Super NES games
If you join the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership service, you’ll get access to a growing library of easy pick-up-and-play NES & Super NES titles such as Donkey Kong, Ghosts’n Goblins, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and BRAWL BROTHERS. Don’t forget you can pass a Joy-Con to a friend for multiplayer fun.As long as you remain a member, you’ll have access to the full line-up of games at any given time.
Save Data Cloud
Securely and automatically back up your game data online for easy access. This makes it simple to retrieve your game data if you lose your Nintendo Switch console, or start using a new one. Whilst Animal Crossing: New Horizons does not support the save data cloud functionally on Nintendo Switch Online, there is a list of compatible titles releasing this year that do such as Mario Golf: Super Rush, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, and DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power.
Smartphone
With the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app, enjoy voice chat with other players incompatible online games. Open the app while playing compatible games to voice chat with your friends as you play.
Exclusives
Online members can enjoy exclusive products, like the Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers for use with NES titles on Nintendo Switch, with more to come. The Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers programme is available exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online members. Members are able to purchase a set of two vouchers for £84.00, which can each be redeemed for a download version of any game from the programme’s catalogue – allowing two games to be purchased at a reduced price.
The buy now, use later vouchers are redeemable for 12 months from the date of purchase and don’t have to be used at the same time. More gaming titles will be added to the programme’s catalogue, including new launching in the future. You can earn as buy vouchers where you receive Gold Points worth 5% of your total paid amount.
