Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar is being released this week and the gays are going to be obsessed.

It stars Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo in the title roles and comes “from the gals who brought you Bridesmaids” and will be available to rent from 12 February.

The films follows best friends Barb and Star – short for Starbra but Barb isn’t short for Barbra, OK? – who leave their small town for the first time to go on vacation in Vista Del Mar, Florida.

While there the pair of them experience sun, sea, adventure, love and a villain’s plot kill everyone in town, because of course they do. Plus it’s also been written by Wiig and Mumolo who reunite after that iconic airplane scene in Bridesmaids.

As well as the two leads the cast also features Jamie Dornan and icons including Wendi McLendon-Covey from Bridesmaids, Rose Abdoo from Gilmore Girls, Phyllis Smith from The Office, SNL’s Vanessa Bayer and Forunte Feimster.

The film was originally scheduled to be released in summer 2020 but due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic it was pushed back and will now get an on-demand release.

That means you can watch the film from the comfort of your own home as it’ll be available to rent from Friday, 12 February.

You can rent it for £13.99 from on-demand services including Amazon, YouTube, Google Play, Sky Store and Virgin On Demand. Once you’ve rented it you can stream it through your Smart TV, phone or device including a Fire TV Stick.

The trailer has had a somewhat mixed reaction, with viewers feeling duped that they were watching a new preview for the upcoming Stranger Things series.

This is because the first half of the trailer features similar music and font-style to the hit show but it’s pretty much a spoof of the Netflix series. The clip then sees character Barb turn on the lamp and Madonna’s “Holiday” starts playing to scenes from the film, camp!

In the trailer we see them host their ‘talking club’ with their friends, get their stunning portraits done on holiday, scream on a speedboat ride and witness a topless Jamie Dornan coming out of the ocean… what’s not to like?

The film follows other big releases that have had an on-demand release rather than theatrical, including the Anne Hathaway-starring The Witches, Disney’s Mulan and Promising Young Woman.

To rent the film worldwide go to Amazon Prime Video. It’ll also be available to rent via various on-demand services.
