Gina Carano, who plays Cara Dune on The Mandalorian, has been fired following accusations of antisemitism and transphobia.

According to Variety, a Lucasfilm spokesperson said on Wednesday (10 February): “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future.”

It came after Carano shared a post that appeared to compare being a Republican to being Jewish during the Holocaust.

The now-deleted post, shared to her Instagram story, read: “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children.

“Because history is edited, most people today don’t realise that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews.

“How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”

Carano also shared a photo of someone wearing multiple face masks, accompanied by the words: “Meanwhile in California…”

Lucasfilm condemned her words, its statement continuing: “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

In September last year, Carano was accused of transphobia when she added “boop/bop/beep” to her Twitter profile, after fans asked if she would display her pronouns as an act of trans solidarity.

But the actor and former MMA star refused to accept the concerns of trans people, insisting: “Beep/bop/boop has zero to do with mocking trans people, [100 per cent] to do with exposing the bullying mentality of the mob that has taken over the voices of many genuine causes.”

Following the news that she has been fired, Carano’s supporters have claimed she lost her job because of “cancel culture”, and #CancelDisneyPlus began trending on Twitter.

Gun rights activist Kyle Kashuv claimed: “Gina Carano was fired for being conservative.”

But, as one Twitter user pointed out: “She belittled six million Jews who got massacred for merely being born Jewish by claiming she’s living under the same type of fear that they did for choosing to be a Republican… She cancelled herself.”

Of course, there were those outraged by Disney’s decision to fire Gina Carano, prompting the hashtag #CancelDisneyPlus to trend on Twitter.

PinkNews has contacted representatives for Gina Carano for comment.
