Queen Kristen Stewart has been revealed as Princess Diana – and the resemblance is uncanny
The first picture of Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana in the new biopic Spencer, from Jackie director Pablo Larraín, has been unveiled.
Spencer, announced in 2020, covers a single weekend in the 1990s, when Princess Diana made the decision to leave her then-husband, Prince Charles.
On Wednesday (27 January), Neon, the studio behind Spencer, posted the first look at Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana, and Twitter is in shock over the striking resemblance.
One asked the studio: “The girl in the photo is Kristen or the authentic Diana?”
“That really took me a second to see that was Kristen Stewart in the photo and not Diana,” said another.

The photo left social media users excited about Stewart’s performance, with one remaining worry – her royal British accent.
“I take back any doubts I had about Kristen Stewart portraying Princess Diana – she has it nailed here,” read one tweet. “The only remaining worry is the accent…”

Another person wrote: “Does Kristen Stewart look phenomenal as Princess Diana? Yes!! Do I trust her ability to do any kind of accent? No!!!”
Along with the first look at Stewart, Neon also announced that Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins and Sean Harris will also star in the film, although their roles have not been revealed.
The studio has also released the official synopsis of Spencer, which reads: “December, 1991: The Prince and Princess of Wales’ marriage has long since grown cold.
“Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at Sandringham Estate.
|There’s eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. This year, things will be a whole lot different.”
Spencer director Pablo Larraín said Kristen Stewart is ‘beautiful’ as Princess Diana.
When Spencer was announced, the biopic’s director Pablo Larraín told Variety: “Kristen is one of the great actors around today.

“To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery.
“Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile an ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need.”
He added: “The way she responded to the script and how she is approaching the character, it’s very beautiful to see.
“I think she’s going to do something stunning and intriguing at the same time. She is this force of nature.”
