The groundbreaking LGBT+ drama It’s A Sin, which explores the impact of the AIDS crisis in the UK, has finally confirmed its US release date on HBO Max.

The five-part British miniseries follows three young gay men who move to London in the ‘80s, exploring how their lives are changed by the AIDS crisis emerging in the UK.

Already it has been hailed a seminal addition to the queer canon, with British viewers and critics lauding its delicate depiction of an important piece of LGBT+ history.

On Monday (25 January), former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies confirmed Americans would soon be able to watch the show.

Davies revealed in a post on Instagram that It’s A Sin would be available through premium subscription service HBO Max on 18 February.

How many episodes are in It’s a Sin?

Currently, all five episodes of It’s A Sin are now available to stream on All4 in the US, and will soon be available in the US on HBO Max.

It’s A Sin stars Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander, Callum Scott Howells, Lydia West, Omari Douglas and Nathanial Curtis. Stephen Fry and Neil Patrick Harris also play large parts in the series.

Alexander plays the central character Ritchie Tozer, a young, gay man from the Isle of Wight who pursues his dreams of being an actor with his friend Jill (Lydia West). Roscoe Babatunde (Omari Douglas) is a publican who ran away from home when he learns his father intends to send him to Nigeria to be ‘cured’ of his sexuality.

Welshman Colin “Gladys” Morris-Jones, played by Callum Scott Howells, comes to London to find his fortune and follow his dreams of becoming a tailor. Savile Row salesman Henry Coltrane (Neil Patrick Harris) takes Colin under his wing and introduces him to the London gay scene.

What have the reviewers said?

It’s A Sin has dominated conversations since it premiered in the UK. The show garnered an outpouring of praise from viewers and celebrities.

Nigella Lawson called the series a “masterpiece” and “so beautiful and true”.

Graham Norton said It’s A Sin was the “best five hours of television I’ve seen in years”. He said: “Your heart will be broken, warmed and lifted.”

Fans have also been enamoured with the cast of the series, with many loving Neil Patrick Harris’ posh British accent.

It’s A Sin is currently available to stream through All4 across the UK and will be on HBO Max from 18 February in the US.
