Promising Young Woman is a rape revenge thriller film that everyone is talking about – and it’s finally got a release date.

The first trailer for the film dropped all the way back in late 2019 and featured that violin version of Britney Spears’ Toxic, so the film’s release has been a long time coming.

The film follows Cassie who everyone said was a ‘promising young woman’, until a mysterious event abruptly derailed her future. As the story unfolds nothing in Cassie’s life is what it appears to be, as she lives a secret double life by night to right the wrongs of the past in a thrilling story of a woman seeking to avenge her best friend, who was a victim of rape.

Written and directed by Emerald Fennell (Killing Eve) it stars Carey Mulligan in the lead role who has already been tipped for success at the upcoming award season, while the supporting cast features a host of big names including Laverne Cox, Jennifer Coolidge, Alison Brie and Connie Britton.

The film was originally scheduled to be released in cinemas April 2020, but due to theatre closures across the globe following the coronavirus outbreak it was pushed back ‘indefinitely’.

So if you’ve been waiting patiently for the film’s release or you’re new to hearing about it and want to know how to watch it we’ve got all the info you need.

It eventually had a limited cinema release in December before being available digitally in the US from 15 January, 2021. Viewers can now purchase the movie from on-demand services including Amazon Prime Video, iTunes and FandangoNow.

But for those outside the US, you might be wondering when you can finally watch Promising Young Woman. Well you can finally preorder the film from the likes of Amazon Prime Video for £9.99 in standard definition or £13.99 in HD.

There’s still no official release date with a disclaimer saying, “get this film as soon as it becomes available”, which is better than the previous “this film is unavailable in your region” for those outside the US.

Similar to other recent releases including The Witches and Wonder Woman 1984 it’s getting a home release with viewers being able to rent on-demand from the likes of Amazon Prime Video, Sky Box Office, Virgin Media Store and iTunes.

To preorder Promising Young Woman head to the film’s Amazon Prime Video page here. It will then download to your account as soon as the film is released so you can stream it through a smart TV or device like a Fire TV Stick.
