Euphoria drops heart-stopping trailer for special Jules episode co-written by Hunter Schafer

A trailer for the new Euphoria special episode focusing on Jules, penned by Hunter Schafer, has been unleashed.

Ahead of Euphoria season two, which, like everything good and pure in this world, has been delayed by coronavirus, the HBO smash is releasing two special “bridge” episodes.

After the first, which focused on Rue (Zendaya) following her relapse, Jules will take centre stage in “F**k Anyone Who’s Not A Sea Blob”.

Hunter Schafer, who plays Jules, co-wrote the episode with creator Sam Levinson, who also directs.

The Euphoria special will pick up with Jules after she left Rue at the train station, with the new trailer promising to explore the relationship between the two, as well as the one Jules has with her own identity.

“Over the Christmas holiday, Jules reflects on the year,” HBO teases.

“Rue was the first girl that didn’t just look at me,” Jules says in the trailer.

“She actually saw me, the me that’s underneath a million layers of not me.”

Schafer teased the Euphoria special in a recent interview with Porter, in which she said she prefers to talk about trans issues through projects like it, “because it takes a more philosophical approach to transness and queerness and because it’s more emotional and abstract”.

She added that she thinks “that is more relevant” than her attempting to be a “spokesperson for any community” in real life.

When is the Euphoria special released?

Euphoria’s “Part 2: Jules”, also known as “F**k Anyone Who’s Not A Sea Blob”, will be released on Friday (22 January) at 6pm ET/9pm ET on HBO Max.

It will then air on HBO on Sunday (24 January).

Euphoria returned to screens before Christmas with a special devoted to Rue. The two-hander saw Rue, back on drugs, unpack her trauma and her reluctance to get sober with her sponsor Ali (Colman Domingo).

Stripped of the usual frenetic editing and group dynamics, the episode was hailed a startling addition to the Euphoria canon, and proof – if any was needed – that Zendaya was deserving of her Best Actress Emmy.

The episode is available to stream on HBO Max in the US. In the UK it can be streamed on Sky catch-up and NowTV, with the Jules episode arriving Monday (25 January) at 2am.
