Matthew Camp has revealed he narrowly escaped after his home in New York, US, was targeted by an arsonist in an “apparent hate crime”.

The 36-year-old sex worker and OnlyFans pioneer said Monday (18 January) that he was inside the property with roommate Six Carter at the time of the fire, which occurred early morning on 14 January.

Camp shared startling photographs on social media of the Poughkeepsie property and surrounding porch engulfed in flames, smoke billowing. In pictures after the fire was put out by firefighters, the interior can be seen gutted and charred, showered with shattered glass and the ceiling partially cratered-in.

According to the Daily Mail newspaper, the fire surged for 90 minutes. Neither Camp nor Carter was harmed in the fire.

There were “no personal possessions salvageable inside”, Carter wrote in a GoFundMe which has raised more than $30,300 to “rebuild” Camp’s life and replace torched belongings.

The authorities are treating the incident as “attempted murder”, Carter said, while Camp alleged the attack was a “hate crime”.

Matthew Camp shaken after arsonist allegedly sets home ablaze while he slept: ‘I have nothing left’.

“An arsonist poured gasoline on the front porch of my home and set it on fire in an apparent hate crime,” Matthew Camp said in an Instagram post.

“I was asleep inside. I am alive to face this person one day but everything I have ever owned is gone.

“Share this story because queer people are still under attack all over the world. Our voices will not be silenced.

“Right now I’m just living day to day trying to piece together what’s left.”

The Slag Wars star uploaded local surveillance footage which, he said, is of the arsonist. It appeared to show a man with his hood up carrying two jerrycans of gasoline at around 5am.

Camp also documented his two-story residence, which he purchased in October 2020, smouldering in flames. “As you can see, I have nothing left,” he captioned a video.

“Please stay vigilant, queer community,” he said. “This is hate.”

The storied home along South Clinton Street previously belonged to Joe “Netherworld” Mendillo, a high-ranking Church of Satan member and the first person to officiate a Satanic same-sex wedding in New York state, who passed away in January 2020.

Mendillo transformed the building into a beloved gathering spot for the local community during Halloween, being decorated all year round with pumpkins and devil sculptures.
