While she may not be president (yet) Lady Gaga is slated to sing the national anthem at Joe Biden and Kamala Harris‘ historic inauguration 20 January.

Gaga will jet back from Chromatica for Biden’s outdoor swearing-in ceremony, made vastly minimal by coronavirus restrictions, at the West Front of the US Capitol, Washington DC.

The Biden-Harris inaugural committee confirmed to Variety that the “Stupid Love” hitmaker will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner”, closing out the inaugural ceremony attended by top officials and other dignitaries.

She will be joined on the deck by Jennifer Lopez, with firefighter Andrea Hall leading the Pledge of Allegiance and the first person to be named National Youth Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman, reciting a poem.

Gaga previously opened the Super Bowl 50 in 2016 with a rendition of the “The Star-Spangled Banner” that drew plaudits from viewers and sports pundits alike.

The Democratic ticket has certainly drawn a constellation of stars celebrating the president-elect’s victory – a sharp contrast to outgoing president Donald Trump’s inauguration, where performances included a Mormon choir and an America’s Got Talent winner singing the national anthem.

Alongside the swearing-in ceremony, organised by a bipartisan congressional committee, the Presidential Inaugural Committee has also scheduled an array of celeb-packed inauguration events.

Celebrating America, a cross-network primetime special, will see Demi Lovato, among others, perform in place of the traditional inaugural balls.

Gaga throughout the 2020 presidential elections sought to rally her millions of social media followers to get out and vote in a viral video before appearing at a drive-in rally for Biden to help build last-minute support.

Trump, meanwhile, made it clear throughout the elections that he didn’t spend his summer learning the choreography of “Stupid Love”. Instead, he fired shots against Gaga – delivering awkward rants about her or his campaign team describing her as an “anti-fracking activist”.

“So happy, I’m glad to be living rent-free in your head!” Gaga jabbed back at the time.
