RuPaul will reportedly host Drag Race Australia, with news emerging that she has flown Down Under to begin production.

The queen of drag is said to be quarantining in Auckland, New Zealand – where Drag Race Australia will film due travel restrictions, according to inside sources.

The New Zealand LGBT+ outlet Express claimed that RuPaul had checked into a quarantine hotel Thursday (7 January). Representatives for the star did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation.

It’s long been speculated that RuPaul could host an Australian version of the show – her husband, Georges LeBar, is Australian, and the drag icon regularly gushes about her love for the country.

Express also reported that a number of Australian queens have flown to Auckland to compete in the show, and will be joined in the werk room by two Kiwi queens.

Drag Race alum Courtney Act also recently announced she was flying from her home in London to her native Australia, though this is thought to be a coincidence.

Drag Race Australia joins a never-ending list of RuPaul money-spinners.

An Australian spin-off was first announced in August 2019, when ITV’s Australian production arm confirmed that it has secured the local rights for the show.

Drag Race and All Stars both stream on Stan in Australia. ITV said at the time that it would be entering discussions with “potential broadcast and streaming partners” with a view to air in 2020, however the pandemic evidently delayed matters.

If RuPaul does host Drag Race Australia, it will be the second international edition she has fronted following Drag Race UK, which is about to begin its second season.

It all comes at the top of a very busy year for the franchise, with a third UK season confirmed to air in late 2021, as well as a second Canadian edition recently announced.

Drag Race Spain is also slated to air this year, albeit with an all-new host. Meanwhile, in the US, season 13 is currently airing with All Stars 6 confirmed to follow.
