Netflix makes last-minute Drag Race season 13 announcement

Drag Race season 13 will air on Netflix in the UK very soon, the streamer has confirmed.
2021 is already looking a lot brighter thanks to Netflix and the incoming season of Drag Race.
Since RuPaul confirmed season 13 would kick off on New Year’s Day in the US, British and Irish fans have been left hanging like an old pair of tucking panties for confirmation of when they’d be able to watch the new run.
Thankfully, the streaming service swept in with an 11th-hour announcement Thursday morning (31 December), confirming that the first episode of Drag Race season 13 will be released on Saturday (2 January) on Netflix in the UK and Ireland.

It has yet to confirm whether Drag Race: Untucked will be released week-by-week as God intended, or if all episodes will drop after the finale, as it did for season 12.
The new Drag Race will begin with a franchise first – with the 13 new queens lip-syncing two-by-two before they’ve so much as unpacked their cases.
A preview of the first episode, released on YouTube, teased the first two queens going head-to-head to the gay national anthem, Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”.

The new season also marks the first time an out trans man has competed for the crown.
In an apparent nod to this new era of inclusivity, RuPaul has tweaked her “Gentlemen, start your engines, and may the best woman win” catchphrase.
Now, RuPaul tells the queens: “Racers, start your engines, and may the best drag queen win!”
Season 13 looks set to be filled with more twists and turns than an Alyssa Edwards lip-sync, with Randy Barbato, executive producer, telling Variety: “This season’s queens are the biggest characters ever, competing in some of the most outrageous challenges in Drag Race herstory, including a game-changing season-opening twist, the world’s first ‘disco-mentary’, three ‘RuPaulmark’ holiday movies and so much more.”
Two weeks after season 13 premieres, Drag Race UK will launch its second season on BBC iPlayer.
