Ellen DeGeneres revealed Wednesday (16 December) that she is on the mend after testing positive for the coronavirus, but felt “excruciating pain” before.

In a video posted to Twitter, the host of the eponymous The Ellen DeGeneres Show gave an update on her health after she announced last week she was sickened by COVID-19.

Wearing a plaid shirt and with her dog Wally by her side, she told viewers: “Just saying thank you to all the well wishes out there, I appreciate it very much.

“I’m feeling 100 per cent, I feel really good.”

Ellen DeGeneres opens up about the ‘excruciating back pain’ she felt due to coronavirus

“One thing that they don’t tell you is you get, somehow, excruciating back pain,” she continued.

“Didn’t know that was a symptom, but I talked to some other people – back pain. Who knew? How come?

“Back pain. Bad,” she added, before playing Connect Four with wife Portia de Rossi.

Back pain is, according to public health experts, one possible symptom of the coronavirus, which can cause body aches alongside the commonplace dry cough and fever.

The daytime talk show host shared her diagnosis as The Ellen Show‘s production was paused until January 2021 last week.

On a screen-shotted iPhone Notes page, she revealed that she is feeling fine and is following the Centre for Disease Controls and Prevention’s coronavirus guidelines.

The 62-year-old wrote: “Hi everyone, I want to let you all know that I tested positive for COVID-19.

“Fortunately, I’m feeling fine right now. Anyone who has been in close contact with me has been notified, and I am following all proper CDC guidelines.

“I’ll see you all again after the holidays. Please stay healthy and safe.

“Love, Ellen”.

As 2020 draws to a close, testing positive for the coronavirus has capped off a truly dispiriting and turbulent year for the television personality, once regaled by thousands of fans as an oasis of optimism.

But her once-sparkling reputation has been whittled away this year amid a patchwork of claims from former and current Ellen Show staffers and audience members that the set is engulfed by “toxicity”.

Following an internal investigation into the claims by WarnerMedia, producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman were all fired ahead of the show’s return to screens.
