Trump supporters have torn down a mysterious monolith that appeared in California without explanation, declaring that it was “gay”.

Mysterious mirrored monoliths have been popping up – and subsequently disappearing – all over the world, from Romania to the Isle of Wight, sparking theories that they could have been placed by aliens, artists, or are part of an elaborate ad campaign.

On Wednesday (2 December), another monolith appeared in Atascadero, California, at a point equidistant from Los Angeles and San Francisco.

By the next day, the structure was gone, but this time the disappearance was less mysterious.

According to the San Luis Obispo Tribune, a now-deleted livestream posted on the site showed a group of young Trump supporters dressed in camouflage and night vision goggles making a 500-mile trip to the monolith to tear it down.

Declaring that they were acting “on direct orders of QAnon and president Trump himself”, the young men can be heard saying they intend to “tell the alien overlords they are not welcome”, while singing along to country music in the car and referring to the monolith as “an alien obelisk” and “a pagan monument”.

We don’t want illegal aliens from Mexico or outer space

One of the men added: “We’re going on a 500-mile roundtrip to steal a f**king monolith. That’s how much we love Jesus Christ.”

They stopped to pick up Monster Energy drinks and a wooden cross, and once they reached the park where the monolith had been erected, they began to chant “Christ is king” while walking up a hill.

Finally reaching the monolith, one of the men said to camera: “Christ is king in this country. We don’t want illegal aliens from Mexico or outer space.”

After pushing it over, to shouts of “f**k aliens, all my homies hate aliens”, they then began kicking the mirrored structure.

While the others put the wooden cross in its place, the man filming added: “F**k this gay-a*s monolith.”

Despite their promises to “steal” the “alien obelisk”, they were forced to leave the monolith behind when one of them thought they were being chased. One of the group said: “The Illuminati got it, so we’ll strike again when they put another pillar up.”

Local officials were “upset” that the group had decided to tear down what had quickly become a local landmark.

Mayor Heather Moreno said in a news release: “We are upset that these young men felt the need to drive five hours to come into our community and vandalize the monolith.

“The monolith was something unique and fun in an otherwise stressful time.”
