Strictly star Giovanni Pernice wants Piers Morgan for cursed first male same-sex couple

Strictly: Giovanni Pernice wants Piers Morgan for male same-sex couple

Just when you thought this year truly could not get any worse, Strictly Come Dancing star Giovanni Pernice wants Piers Morgan for the show’s first male same-sex couple.

In what would be a pairing as historic as it is, frankly, cursed pairing, the professional dancer is vying for the Good Morning Britain co-host to join the ballroom, coming after Nicola Adams and Katja Jones became Strictly‘s first-ever same-sex couple this year.

Appearing on the ITV daytime talk show Wednesday morning (2 December), current Strictly contestant and Good Morning Britain political editor Ranvir Singh confessed that Pernice once said he’d rather dance with someone else other than her.

Piers Morgan says he would ‘break’ Strictly star Giovanni Pernice

“You said to me, Giovanni would rather be dancing with me,” Morgan said.

Singh confirmed it, saying: “He said he would like to be in the same first all-male couple on Strictly with Piers.”

Morgan responded: “He said to Ranvir he thought he could break me in one day. Giovanni, buddy, you wouldn’t break me in one year – I would break you.”

“He’s a very strict taskmaster,” Singh mused, “and I just think you could do with a bit of that Piers.”

Morgan, 55, has a troubling track record when it comes to LGBT+ rights. Despite stressing that he is a trans ally, he has had numerous on-air sparring matches with trans people and activists, from referring to non-binary people as a “contagion” to saying he “identifies as trans-slender”.

Moreover, while the BBC One show has yet to have a male same-couple compete, on November 2019, Johannes Radebe and Graziano Di Prima made TV history when they performed a routine to Emile Sande.

The trail-blazing routine was the first-ever enacted by two male professional dancers. As much as the act saw a flurry of fans write into the stars to thank and praise them, 300 viewers took the time from their not-at-all bland, empty lives to complain.
