Elliot Page’s ‘proud’ wife Emma Portner expertly shuts down troll who questioned her sexuality: ‘I’m as fluid as can be’

Elliot Page’s wife Emma Portner shared her pride in him for coming out as transgender while schooling a troll who felt her sexuality was a matter for public commentary.
Portner, a professional dancer and choreographer, shared Page’s announcement on Instagram yesterday and added a touching message of her own.
“I am so proud of Elliot Page,” she wrote. “Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience and privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day.
“Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.”
Her unconditional love and support for her spouse was clear to see, and the pair were met with a flood of well wishes from fans.
But the nature of their relationship was just too hard for some to grasp, and one Instagram user felt they had the right to question Portner on it.
“But now you know you have a husband. I hope you are not a lesbian,” they clumsily commented. Emma Portner was having none of it.
“I hope you know my sexual preferences and gender identity are none of your business,” she hit back. “For me to decide, thank you. Release your labels of me. I am as fluid as can be.”
This answer wasn’t enough for the oblivious troll, who continued pestering the star on the intricacies of her sexuality. One astute fan jumped in to spell it out for them.
“Who you love is WHO YOU LOVE. It really is that simple,” they commented. “Emma loves [Elliot] because he is Elliot. Love is actually that all encompassing, and you seem like your life needs more of it.”
This kind of “invasiveness” was something Elliot Page anticipated before he came out, but being prepared for it doesn’t always make it easier to deal with.
Fortunately Elliot Page is blessed to have a partner as compassionate and understanding as Emma Portner on his side to help him through it all.
