The Dashing in December trailer is delivering the festive gay cowboy romance you never knew you always needed.

Buckle up, because Paramount Network has unveiled a trailer for Dashing in December, one of a number of LGBT+ inclusive Christmas movies to look forward to this year.

The film stars Peter Porte as New York businessman Wyatt, who returns to his rural roots for the holidays to try convince his mother, played by the irreplaceable Andie MacDowell, to sell the family ranch and their locally-beloved Winter Wonderland attraction.

However, things change as he stumbles into an unexpected romance with the the gruff ranch hand Heath, played by Juan Pablo Di Pace, which, a press release says, “reawakens the spirit of Christmas.”

Meghan Hooper, Paramount’s head of original movies and limited series, said in a release: “This feel-good project captures the importance of inclusive storytelling, the power of love and the spirit of the holidays all rolled into one.”

The film also features three original Christmas songs, from Cody Belew, Fancy Hagood and Styles Haury.

Beluw is excited for his work to be featured in the “trailblazing” film, explaining: “Some songs take months to materialize and sometimes a song will just write itself, which is exactly what happened with ‘Hang Your Hat On My Christmas Tree’.

“I wanted to write a Christmas song that had a little bit of all our favourites sprinkled into the recipe. That way, it would feel like a classic even though it’s brand new.

“If you’re reminded of your favourite holiday memories or if you’re living new ones while this song is playing, then I’ll have done my job.”

Dashing in December will premiere on 13 December on Paramount Network, with simulcasts on Logo, Pop and TV Land.

LGBT+ Christmas movies pack TV schedules in 2020.

While Christmas TV movies have for years attracted ire for their lack of diverse representation, things have finally started to change this year after commitments from several major networks to bolster inclusion.

Leading the pack, Kristen Stewart is starring in Happiest Season, a Christmas rom-com set to land on Hulu next week about a lesbian couple forced to spend the holidays with their conservative relatives.

Meanwhile, Hallmark Channel is set to release The Christmas House, about a gay couple heading home for the holidays as they anxiously await a phone call about their plans to become first-time dads by adopting a child together.

As if that wasn’t enough, Lifetime is releasing The Christmas Setup, the network’s first gay holiday film, which stars real-life married actors Blake Lee and Ben Lewis.
