Anderson Cooper calls Trump ‘an obese turtle on his back flailing in the hot sun’ – and it’s an image now seared on our retinas

Anderson Cooper has eviscerated Donald Trump on CNN as the president continues his attempts to subvert the democratic process.

Counting is ongoing in the presidential election, with Joe Biden maintaining a slim lead over Trump – and the president has spent much of the count claiming, without any evidence, that Democrats are trying to steal the election through fraudulent voting ballots.

Trumps’s conspiracy theories reached a peak on Thursday night (5 November), when he doubled down on his baseless allegations at a White House press conference. ABC, CBS and NBC all cut away from the president’s address, saying his accusations were unfounded.

CNN was one of the few networks that broadcast the address in full, prompting backlash from some – but Anderson Cooper’s takedown of Trump afterwards helped assuage people’s concerns.

Anderson Cooper branded Donald Trump ‘an obese turtle on his back, flailing in the hot sun’.

Speaking on CNN on Thursday night after Trump made his claims at the White House, Cooper said America had “never seen” anything like Trump’s tantrum.

“I don’t think we’ve ever seen anything like this from a president of the United States, and I think it’s sad and it is truly pathetic, and of course it is dangerous and of course it will go to the courts, but you’ll notice the president did not have any evidence presented at all. Nothing,” Cooper said.

“No real actual evidence of any kind of fraud, talked about people putting up papers in windows, he talked about things he had seen on the internet.

“This is the president of the United States. That is the most powerful person in the world, and we see him like an obese turtle on his back, flailing in the hot sun, realising his time is over.

“But he just hasn’t accepted it and he wants to take everybody down with him, including this country.”

The clip quickly went viral on Twitter, with people rejoicing in Cooper’s incredible putdown of Trump.

However, Cooper did face some criticism for the comments, with some accusing him of fat-shaming and of using ableist language.

Counting is ongoing in the race for the White House, with Joe Biden maintaining a narrow lead over Trump.

It is looking increasingly likely that Biden will win the presidency, however pundits are still reluctant to call it for the Democrat.
