Pete Buttigieg dominates MAGA supporter who hijacked his stump speech – and blasts Donald Trump for good measure

Pete Buttigieg flexed his dom muscle as he was heckled by a MAGA supporter at a campaign speech Wednesday night (October 28).

With just days to go until the US election, the once-presidential hopeful flew to St. Pete, Florida to stump for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, where he came face-to-face with a Trump supporter intent on ruining his speech.

As Buttigieg spoke, a man stood in front of his socially-distanced podium, dressed in cargo shorts and a red MAGA cap, live-streaming his protest.

As staffers attempted to move him on, Buttigieg rallied: “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a president who will serve him just as enthusiastically as he will serve us?

“Wouldn’t it be nice to have a president who cares just as much about protecting the lives of those that protest us as those who stand at our side?

“Wouldn’t it be nice to have a president who does not believe in violence against those who disagree with him?”

“Are you not proud to be an American in a country that makes room for all of us, but whose values include rejecting hate and rejecting those who would deny science when it could save lives? Rejecting racism and embracing one another for a better future for this country?”

Turning his attention back to the man, he added: “And don’t you feel a little sorry for a president who finds it necessary to draw this kind of support? But it’s OK sir, because when Joe Biden is president you will be safer too.”

As he attempted to return to his prepared speech, Buttigieg was once again heckled.

“Can I finish my remarks? Are you afraid to hear what I have to say?” he retorted.

Trying a different tact, Buttigieg asked: “Do you denounce white supremacy?”

When the man nodded in agreement, he continued: “Good, then we agree on something. That’s a beginning point. See if you can get your president to do the same thing.”

Pete Buttigieg beats Fox News at its own game.

Having once gone toe-to-toe with Joe Biden in the Democratic primaries, Pete Buttigieg has emerged as a powerful surrogate for the former vice president in recent weeks – something he alluded to in his speech.

“I’ve told the Biden-Harris campaign I would go anywhere to support the cause. I didn’t know that would mean going into the mind of Mike Pence for a while to help with debate prep. I didn’t know it would mean going on Fox News quite as often as it has.”

Buttigieg has become a surprise hit on the right-wing broadcaster, which keeps inviting him back despite him embarrassing its hosts again and again.

In one notable October appearance, host Martha McCallum asked him how Kamala Harris could “justify” having supported Medicare for All when running her own presidential campaign, then changing her stance since becoming Biden’s running mate.

Not to be outsmarted, Buttigieg seized the moment to point out Pence’s own hypocrisy.

“Well, there’s a classic parlour game of trying to find a little bit of daylight between running mates,” he said.

“If people want to play that game, we could look into why an evangelical Christian like Mike Pence wants to be on a ticket with a president caught with a porn star. Or how he feels about the immigration policy he called unconstitutional before he decided to team up with Donald Trump.

“If folks want to play that game, we could do it all night.”
