Strictly Come Dancing’s female pros are falling over themselves to make history in same-sex Nicola Adams pairing
With Strictly Come Dancing set to make history with the show’s first same-sex pairing, female pros are pining to be part of the historic match-up with lesbian former boxer Nicola Adams, sources said.
Adams, 37, will ditch the boxing gloves for dancing shoes as she foxtrots, cha-chas and waltzes through the iconic Strictly ballroom – a mainstay of British television for the last 16 years – in the upcoming season.
But who the Olympian will be paired with remains unknown, with an insider telling The Sun that four of the show’s female pros have all expressed an interest with dancing with Adams.
Four Strictly Come Dancing pros throw their hats in the ring to be paired with Nicola Adams.
Katya Jones, 31, has emerged as a keen front-runner, the source said. With Oti Mabuse, 37, Janette Manrara, 36, and Karen Hauer, 38, also jockeying producers to in the historic pairing.
“The female pros know that forming Strictly’s first same-sex partnership will thrust them into the spotlight like never before,” the source said.
“But they’re also thrilled by the fact Nicola is a sportswoman because she has the discipline and fitness to deliver a sensational performance.
“She will also have the strength to do lifts during routines, not to mention the fact that she has a sensational physique which will make those routines that little bit sexier.”
Indeed, the source reflected on how the pros throwing themselves into the ring to become part of this knockout pair really shows how far the show has come.
“The fact the pros are jostling to be with Nicola is a fantastic sign of progress,” they said.
“When Strictly started in less accepting times 16 years ago, they may have had to give it more careful consideration.”
Adams has been in a relationship with the beauty blogger Ella Baig for the past two years and the couple appeared together on Celebrity Gogglebox during lockdown.
