Phillip Schofield has addressed rumours he will competing on Strictly Come Dancing after it was suggested that he could be part of the show’s first ever same-sex pairing.

Reports surfaced over the weekend that the This Morning host was “in talks” with Strictly producers to compete on the show.

But his representative for Schofield has rubbished the Strictly claims, branding them “untrue”.

A spokesperson told Radio Times: “He is not in talks with the BBC.”

The firm rebuttal will come as a disappointment to fans of the much-loved television host, who came out as gay earlier this year.

But all hope is not lost — Strictly bosses are still reportedly considering featuring not one, but two same-sex couples in its next season.

Phillip Schofield is the latest star tipped to appear on the next season of Strictly Come Dancing.

Strictly producers are considering introducing both a male and a female same-sex pairing in its next outing, sources have claimed.

Various famous faces have been tipped to be part of the first same-sex couples, including Westlife star Mark Feehily.

The hit BBC series has come under fire in the past over its dogged refusal to feature a same-sex couple in its 16-year run.

Last year, professional dancers Johannes Radebe and Graziano di Prima performed a dance routine on the show to Emeli Sande’s “Shine” in a history-making moment.

Speaking to HELLO! Magazine after the dance, Radebe said: “I’ve never felt so liberated. For the first time in my life, I feel accepted for who I am. That says so much about the people of this country.”

But queer fans weren’t content, with many calling on the show’s producers to introduce a same-sex pairing in a powerful show of LGBT+ representation.

Schofield came out as gay in an emotional Instagram post earlier this year.

Phllip Schofield came out as gay in a heartfelt Instagram post in February of this year.

The talkshow host revealed that he had struggled with his sexuality throughout his 27-year long marriage to wife Stephanie Lowe.

“You never know what’s going on in someone’s seemingly perfect life, what issues they are struggling with, or the state of their wellbeing,” Schofield wrote.

“And so you won’t know what has been consuming me for the last few years.

“With the strength and support of my wife and daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay.”
